About
Wil Vark makes small contemporary oil paintings that use songbirds, seasonal color, and open fields of quiet space to think about memory, what is hoped for, what is accepted, and what is looked back on.
The paintings are not portraits of birds. Each one begins with a season and a feeling, and the bird arrives as a small, living point of attention inside a larger silence. The work favors sparse composition, restrained brushwork, and simple titles that name the feeling rather than the subject.
The current series, Memory of Seasons, is painted in oil on 9 × 12 inch canvases.
